Understanding Multiple Sclerosis
01
What is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) ?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS), which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective covering of nerve fibers, known as myelin. This myelin damage disrupts the normal flow of electrical impulses along the nerves, leading to a range of neurological symptoms.

Details of Multiple Sclerosis
Symptoms: MS symptoms vary widely and can include fatigue, numbness or tingling, muscle weakness, vision problems, difficulty with balance and coordination, and cognitive impairment.
Causes: The exact cause of MS is unknown, but it's believed to result from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors.

Where are we now?
MS affects each person uniquely—some may have mild symptoms, while others experience severe, progressive symptoms that can lead to disability. Ongoing research, supported by essential funding, aims to deepen our understanding of the disease and advance new treatment options.
